Joan Searles creates functional pottery which is microwave and dishwasher safe and has no lead in the glass.  The variation in size, shape and glaze contribute to the individual character of each piece. As a potter, she constantly explores the possibilities of clay, glaze and firing.  She makes most pots on a potter's wheel, some are pinched, slab-built and/or made with a combination of the techniques.  She mixes her own custom glazes.  All pots are formed, dried slowly, bisque-fired,  glazed and fired again. Some pots are carved, embossed or altered in various ways during the stages of production. Joan loves to make things that become part of people's lives.
