A retired university mathematics teacher, she grew up on the family farm and left at 19 years old. Now she is back home on the great-grandparents' family farm that she and her husband share with their 3 horses, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 4 rabbits. Its 1970, and for thirteen-year old Mary Kay life changes irrevocably when the last of her brothers and sisters marries and moves away from the family farm. Now alone, she faces the challenges of graduating from grade school and entering high school in a another town.
